Forgiving a Friend

McKnightEnterprises.org

We usually want to clean the slate of yesterday's offenses and move on, but what is the protocol when a friend has hurt you. So, how many friends did you find out who were fake?

A best friend is the person you share a significant portion of yourself with and receive the same in exchange. They usually know your thoughts, feelings, desires, and deepest secrets. They have been beside you during times of turbulence and also celebrated your every success.

Fake friends come and go like the weather but a good friend lasts forever. There will be disagreements and misunderstandings, but if you know your friendship is anchored in love, it will stand the test of time. You will know the true friends from the fake ones who have hidden agendas. Sometimes, things will be said or done that can take a friendship on an unexpected journey.

Before you start planning a pity party, remember Jesus had fake friends too. One sat and ate at His table and then betrayed Him with a kiss. Jesus still called Him friend. Jesus still allowed him to get close enough to kiss him. What a lesson. Jesus was one loving man. He also told us to forgive 70x7 in one day! What? That’s 490 times! The truth is … that won’t happen.

Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful. (Proverbs 27:6)

A best friend's betrayal cuts deep and leaves an open wound that we try to heal from the inside out. This is the purpose of our healing sessions … they will help us to heal what’s hurting us. Rather than cut everybody up and out, let look at the source of their pain and our own pain.
