Have you ever experienced being wronged when you haven’t done anything to deserve it? You can do wonderful works and someone will still have a problem with you. People were even offended when Jesus was healing and transforming lives, feeding the hungry, and providing for the poor. He was despised and lied on for being a “do-gooder!”
Then there are those who really don’t mean to offend you. They are just confused and are used to going with the flow of the person they are following. This is why Jesus prayed, “Father forgive them. They don’t know what they are doing.” Honestly, sometimes they really don’t. Many times, people don’t even know what they want until they see what you have, but yet refuse to do what you did to get it. Instead, they criticize you and tell you what you should do with it.
The spirit of offense will make you not want to trust again. Instead, you will find yourself weighing every word because you have heard them before. In your mind, you think you have forgiven whoever wronged you and you feel you have moved on, but your actions show something different.
Since your past expectations were not met, you have become very touchy and defensive. Some people will not even allow themselves to make new friends because of what the old friends did to them.
Don't get offended. Take time and try to see where people are operating from, especially if you love them. People misread quotes and texts all the time. Give them a call, find the truth, and then act accordingly. You don't have to like, share, or comment on what you hear or read!
