Any painful experience is something that is not easily forgotten. Imagine someone who has been injured in a terrible accident, even though the accident may be over, the scar or broken bones that may never have healed quite right. The wound or broken bone may become a constant reminder of something they wish to forget. Some accidents are so terrible that some won't remember the accident itself but the pain or scar is a constant reminder that something traumatic happened to them. In cases of abuse, some have suppressed the incident to the point where in their mind, it never happened.
No one is exempt from hardships. We have all suffered some emotional experiences that left us wounded in one way or another. We may have tried to forget, but something happens that triggers an ache that takes us right back to the spot where the injury occurred.
So, what do we do? We look for a place of relief, a place of refuge where we can go and find some type of healing … at least, some comfort. As little children, most of us were taught to pray and to take our troubles to the Lord. From a young age, we have always heard that when we come to God everything would be better. Many of us forget that there were humans handling the House of God, so we left no room for error. We thought everything was perfect in God’s House. All our life, we thought God was handling everything in the church but much like the man behind the curtain in the Wizard of Oz, it wasn’t as divine as we thought … it was under human control. It turned out to be human hands that were pushing all the buttons sending up all the elaborate displays.
In God's House, the only man behind the curtain should be Jesus. All your expectations should be in Him, regardless of who the leader is. Don't idolize anyone.
To err is human; to forgive, divine. ~Alexander Pope
Humans make mistakes but we should strive to follow God's example and forgive.
