Power Heads
Whoever is sitting at the top has the power.
Pharaoh, in his day, declared he was all power. He made the laws, he chose the leaders, he thought he was the priest, and, therefore, he even sacrificed to the gods. All that happened, good or bad, he took credit for. He gave God no glory unless it was a god he created.
Pharaoh was a high-minded, hard headed, vain imposer … posing as God. His name means he is god.
He was just a form of godliness with no power when compared to God. He threatened and terrorized all with death and curses. The people believed Pharaoh held power on earth even in the afterlife. He compared himself and made the people believe he was a god. He had control of their minds. The people feared him, believing he could send plagues and curses. Of course, he used other hitmen to attack the slaves, but they were yet to experience the attack God was to send upon Egypt. God's power was the prevailing power over the people. Moses had to break this mindset off the generation of Hebrews that grew up fearing Pharaoh’s power. They did not understand that the Pharaoh was only as powerful as they made him to be.
God would use Moses to display His power. We know now for Pharaoh alone, that there were 10 plagues used, not counting any other times Moses said to let the people go (Exodus 7 - 8). God knew Pharaoh was arrogant and would not do let the people go, so every time Pharaoh told God no, God turned the crank to tighten his heart strings and hardened his heart.
Most gods were made of stone anyway, and since Pharaoh allowed the people to chisel out his image in stone, God made his heart as hard as his head! God on the other hand disliked any graven images named god.
