The Changing of the Guards

Recently, I attended a conference on leadership called The Changing of the Guards. It was a spiritual gathering but the lessons can be used in every season of life. This conference was about being prepared for who will be next in line to lead. It taught us how to prepare yourself and the people who have followed one leader for years, to turn that loyalty to another. A new voice, a new face is standing before the crowd now. This happens in government, corporate, education, church and family life. Years have passed and decisions have become more complex. What worked yesterday may not work today. Technology has gone from phone booths to handheld mobile phones. Some things are outdated and the new generation doesn't even know what a dial faced phone looks like. They have new inventions and innovative ideas to share. The old dogs must learn the new to survive and be relevant. There are new guards, new ways of protection and instructions on how to move next.
In a family when a loved one passes away, a vacancy shifts to other members to step in or step up. When the matriarch or patriarch passes, usually whoever is next in line will lead the family.
God has guards all around us and has called some of us to be new guards.
Guards who pray, guards who protect, guards who have gifts we can share with His People.
There is a difference between a blocker and guard. Ask God for wisdom. Don't block the move of God but guard it and be a good guard over all God has assigned you to do.
