Unclean Vessels

McKnightEnterprises.org

Have you ever reached for a glass or a dish to use and it was dirty? Your first thought was, “Yuck,” because you thought it was clean when you pulled it from the shelf. After you discovered it was dirty, you either had to clean the dish or discard it.

Have you ever gone to a restaurant and the hostess escorted you to a dirty table or served your food on an unclean plate? I have seen people yell at the waiter or waitress concerning this. It is not acceptable to have your food served over someone else’s leftovers. Nothing will make you lose your appetite more than a dirty plate, glass, fork, or spoon.

So, if we get upset over a dirty dish, how do you think God feels when we invite Him into an unclean vessel? How do you think He feels when we try to make Him partake of our worship when we are unclean? Thank God that He can clean us up if we ask Him. We must take the time to pray to Him to ‘create in us a clean heart and renew a right spirit within us.’

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. (Psalm 51:1-2)
