Victory in the Valley

McKnightEnterprises.org

A valley is a narrow place usually found in the lowlands of a country. It is in the opposite position of a mountain. The valley is usually dark and can be full of uncertainties. It’s a very humbling place to walk, and is not considered a place to hang out. You never know what to expect, or who or what might be hiding in the valley.

In the Book of Psalm Chapter 23, King David spoke of the valley as the shadow of death. Although we would choose to avoid the valley, it is impossible because most of the time the streams and rivers are in the valley. Water is the one thing man and beast can’t live without. Water is what sustains us and keeps us alive and it is mostly found in low places.

So, no matter how much we might enjoy being on the mountain top, eventually we will have to go down in the valley for water. It’s by the water where we will be replenished, refreshed, restored, and renewed. Thank God for the valleys and for the water it houses. Thank God for the rivers, the brooks, and the streams. These can be refreshing places.

Contrary to how the valley was portrayed, it wasn’t all bad because what you conquer in the valley will make you ready for your next mountain experience. Without the valley, we will not have the provision for the next mountain top. We prefer remaining on the mountain top where it feels safe. We have to challenge our fears sometimes. We have to learn that God shows up where we are, if we call Him. Try Him, Trust Him.
